Provenance Verification
Welcome to steveajohnsonprovenance.com. This site serves as a utility to verify the origin and authorship of my digital art found on platforms like Unsplash and Pexels.
While I release my work under a CC0 license—allowing it to be used freely for any legal purpose without attribution—this site exists to prevent others from falsely claiming original authorship of the paintings or digital processes involved.
How to Verify an Image
To find the original upload and publication date of a specific work:
-
Click on any thumbnail to view the larger version.
-
Copy the filename displayed above the image.
-
Search that filename using Google Search.
The search results will direct you to the original source page (typically Unsplash), which displays the initial upload date. This date serves as the record for the image’s first appearance on the web. The source page will also clearly display my account name Steve A Johnson along with the blue and orange overlapping squares identifier that I use on all of my accounts and pages.
Note: Currently, this specific filename search works flawlessly via Google but not with other search engines such as Bing or Duckduckgo
